Joseph Brown Vats are located in the attractive historic village of Dufftown, set in the foothills of the Cairngorm Mountains in the north east of Scotland. The firm is run by Ron and Carrilee Low and has a distinguished history of craftsmanship, and commitment to quality and service.

Occupying the very heart of distillery country, and home to such world famous Scotch malts as Glenfiddich, Balvenie and Glendullan, Dufftown is the chief highlight of the 'Whisky Trail', a tourist route travelled annually by thousands of visitors from every corner of the world. Here is something of our history...

Originally established as coopers and vat builders in 1921, the firm of Joseph Brown & Sons provided general cooperage services to the distilling, chemical, test and tank industries.

Ron Low started with the firm in March 1985 and was indentured as an apprentice cooper under Ian Brown, serving a four year apprenticeship, being taught the coopering trade and also vat building. Ron formed the limited company in 2005 with directors RA & C Low.

We are accredited to the Safe Contractors Scheme and are members of the Cooperage Federation.
